Cupcakes and trivia games may not be the first things to come to mind when you think about Labor Day, but they made for a fun combo at Arbor Terrace of Herndon.

Residents in the community celebrated the holiday in this fashion courtesy of Pauline Smith of First Choice Home Care. Pauline put up decorations and came prepared with well-researched questions.

Her Labor Day celebration was a hit with staff and residents alike.

“I enjoyed the challenging trivia questions, as well as the prizes and goodies she gave away,” said resident Richard Major.

Resident Heather Jaffan said, “It’s always a treat when Pauline comes to visit our community.”

Saul Sameron, Herndon Senior Care counselor, enjoyed seeing the residents having fun.

“What a great way to engage our residents,” he added. “They were really intrigued.”

Herndon’s Engagement director, Benita Black, praised Smith for the hard work she put into planning and presenting the event.

“She made sure our residents were well taken care of throughout her trivia games,” Black said. “She ended with asking our residents what they would like? What could she do to make them smile the next time she comes?”
