Resident Spotlight - Faye Anderson

Family members, friends and area residents at Arbor Terrace Lakeway have been blessed by Faye Anderson’s Christian ministry and generosity. Anderson raised her family in a small rice farming community on the Chesterville, Texas, prairie, which is about an hour west of Houston.

She was born in 1933 and was married for 66 years to Jay Anderson, a rice farmer. They raised three children, who bore them six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Anderson moved to Arbor Terrace Lakeway in 2017.

Anderson holds the joy of her Christian faith close to her heart. She knows that she is blessed and her faith continues to be a comfort to her. Her life was transformed when she was 37, as she experienced a life-changing religious experience. She wholeheartedly embraced her faith and began devoting her time to ministering to others.

Daughter Cynthia DeLaughter said, “Mother always says, ‘I am so blessed!’ which is true. However, she is the real blessing to her community and to us.”

Inspired by her experience, Anderson and several others established The Upper Room Coffeehouse to minister to teenagers and adults. People traveled from as far as 150 miles away to attend. Building upon the coffeehouse ministry, they opened Upper Room Books & Gifts, which served as a place people could gather for coffee, find good books and the perfect gift for any occasion.

In addition, Anderson owned Design 3, which focused on interior decorating, floral arranging and picture framing. Faye’s designed talent is reflected in her beautifully decorated room at Lakeway.

She also enjoyed entertaining and was well-known for hosting memorable parties. For example, her annual New Year’s Eve party was a must-attend affair with amazing entertainment and an endless supply of gourmet food and celebration.

“Mother loved entertaining and was an amazing host. No details were missed when preparing for a party,” DeLaughter said. “Her guests included presidential candidates; senators; congressmen; governors; and even African tribal leaders. She was a gifted connector and encourager who enjoyed helping others achieve their goals.”

Faye is a blessing to the staff and community.  Carol Winterbottom, a fellow resident shared "how lucky she is to be her friend” and we all look forward to her warm smile and giving personality.
