Hot Days – Cool Lakeway Dogs

A group of four-legged family members, friends and volunteers visited the residents of Arbor Terrace Lakeway, lending a helping paw while enjoying extra cuddles and pats.

With everyone stuck inside and the dog days of summer seeming to last forever, the staff organized another fun, tail-wagging event for the residents.

The Dog Days of Summer parade and photo contest, announced earlier this summer, invited local families to share photos of their dogs Aug. 6-8. Photos filled the staff’s inboxes and family member, Joanie Turman’s granddog recorded a video that encouraged fellow dogs to join the parade.

The owners of two volunteer dogs – Mia and Ruffus – joined the fun and entered their favorite photos. Volunteer dogs are an essential part of the community, regularly visiting on Mondays and Wednesdays. They have built a fanbase unmatched by any homegrown Austin country star.

“We miss you guys! Mondays just aren’t the same without our visits to Arbor Terrace,” wrote Mia’s owner, Mallory Odom. Ruffus’ owner, Susan Kendrick, shared: “Ruffus loves visiting [Arbor Terrace] and receiving attention from the residents.”

When Saturday morning finally rolled around for the parade, excitement charged the air as a group of happy owners and tail-wagging, furry friends gathered in the community’s parking lot catching up and sharing stories.

Some residents sat outside, waiting patiently, as others watched through windows from inside the community to cheer and say hello to their favorite friends and family members.

The parade was a success, and Boo and Lambert, two dog participants, tied for Best in Show.

Here’s a special, “Who Let the Dogs Out – Shout Out” to our campaign entries and parade participants.
