Getting Started FAQs
I don’t know anyone who lives in your community. How can I make new friends?
There are always friendly faces at Opus! Our residents tend to become fast friends, and you can meet new people easily. Try joining one of our community clubs, attending a social program, or simply saying hello to a few new people you see in the halls.
How do I know which type of senior living is best for me?
We’d love to help guide you through that decision. Our team can learn more about you and any challenges or worries you may have before you decide to move. We have years of experience and can confidently lead you in the direction of the senior living option that is best for you.
Opus offers four types of senior living options on one campus: independent living apartments, independent living cottages, assisted living, and dementia care. No matter where you live, you will enjoy the amenities, the activities, and the Opus lifestyle, including personalized care and deep connections with those around you. However, assisted living and dementia care offer more specialized care and additional assistance, which is ideal if you could benefit from easy access to caregivers or are living with Alzheimer’s disease or another type of dementia.
I’m a bit shy. Do I have to attend group activities?
At Opus, you always get to make your own decisions! We know everyone has unique personalities and preferences, and our team works hard to develop opportunities everyone will enjoy. You may choose to skip out on large group activities but participate in a lecture or book club. If you don’t see something that interests you, tell us! We are always looking for new ideas.
I have a special diet. Can I still eat in the dining room?
Our chefs are trained and prepared to offer a variety of entree options for any diet. Our dining team strives to cook healthy meals with very little added sugar and no added salt — but with plenty of flavor! We cater to many different tastes and dietary needs, and we will work hard to help you meet your health goals.
Is there a buy-in fee?
You won’t have to worry about a buy-in fee when you choose Opus. Instead, you pay for the services you need when you need them, month by month.
What's the difference between rental senior living communities and CCRCs in Memphis?
CCRC's—or continuing care retirement communities—are designed specifically for seniors, anticipating that they will remain in the community as their needs change. Just like at Opus, CCRCs allow residents to age in place, transitioning from independent living to assisted living or dementia care if their needs change. Different from Opus, which is a rental community, seniors pay significant fees, both monthly and at move-in, for their space at a CCRC. These fees vary widely from community to community, but as of 2021, the average entrance fee was $300,000. Opus residents only pay monthly rent, never a move-in or entrance fee.
Can I come and go as I please?
Absolutely! You can head out to meet your friends at a favorite restaurant or attend a family dinner. For the safety of our dementia care residents, our Reflections memory care neighborhood is secured. Residents can still go out but need to be accompanied by a staff member, family member, or friend.
Are meals included?
Assisted living and dementia care services feature three chef-prepared meals each day in our social dining room so you can enjoy meals with your friends and neighbors. Independent living apartment and cottage residents enjoy breakfast and their choice of either lunch or dinner every day in the dining room.
Want to share your meal experience with family members or friends? We’d love to serve them as well. You can order guest meals for your visitors to enjoy in the dining room with you.
