Life was sweet for residents of Arbor Terrace of Knoxville during National Assisted Living Week last month.
The week began with Grandparents Day. Team members made a Grandparents Day card for each resident and loaded up the snack cart with ice cream and all the fixings for sundaes.
Monday was Moon Pie Day, and residents had a chance to snack on the Southern chocolate-and-marshmallow treat, washing it down with a cold soda.
Resident Ernie Dougherty was delighted to partake. “These Moon Pies are wonderful,” he said. “I remember them being bigger, but I love them anyway.”
Another Southern delight took the spotlight on Tuesday when the community ordered Krispy Kreme doughnuts for breakfast for the residents and staff.
Hot dogs were the food of choice Wednesday to thank the staff for all of their hard work. The menu also included chili chips and cupcakes.
Resident Assistant Melody Kirkpatrick received her 2019 Arbor Star Trophy, which is awarded to the staff member who goes above and beyond all year long, as voted by their peers. The party ended with a karaoke sing-along.
The week concluded with a celebration of Hazel Schullar’s 92nd birthday. The team gave her a chocolate cake and a card, and Schullar said with a chuckle, “I am really this old!”
