This year, one of the recipients for the Mayors of Spartanburg Committee for People with Disabilities Scholarship Award is Eden Terrace’s own James Goode!
James is a Maintenance Assistant and Dining Utility employee at Eden Terrace through the Spartanburg High School’s Trade Track. Students in the program receive work experience at reputable businesses in the community, and learn how to succeed in the workforce. Eden Terrace is honored to be a part of the program, teaching students valuable work skills and life lessons, while reaping the benefit of having these special students work with our staff and residents.
This June, James was honored along with four others for this esteemed award from the city of Spartanburg. Along with the award, he received a $500 scholarship to support his academic journey or chosen vocation. A dedicated employee, James even walked to work one day in the rain! Though his co-workers made him promise next time to call and ask for a ride, they are constantly impressed with his determination and can-do attitude.
As a valuable member of the Eden Terrace team, many of James’ teammates from the staff came to celebrate him at the award ceremony, and were even asked to stand in recognition of their unwavering support. Said Cindy Hughes, Executive Director of Eden Terrace, “James is so deserving of this award. His smile alone makes the world a better place. We are so happy he is a part of our Eden Terrace family.”
