Arbor Terrace Willistown is committed to providing exceptional care to every resident who calls our community home. It takes a team of dedicated employees to ensure that the seniors we serve, and their family members, are feeling the Arbor culture every day. When we’re hiring new team members, we work hard to find the best of the best. Every position in our community is important, but our Resident Care Assistants are especially crucial to making our community feel like home.
Umu Mustapha is a Resident Care Assistant in our Arbor Terrace Willistown family. She serves the residents living in our Evergreen Neighborhood, a space specifically designed for older adults living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia. We could not be more thankful to have Umu serving our residents, because she does so with compassion and attention to detail.
Dedicated to Serving Residents
Umu was born in West Africa, in Freetown, Sierra Leone. She came to America and discovered her passion for working with seniors. Although she joined the Arbor Terrace Willistown family less than two years ago, she has already made her mark on our community, residents, and family members.
As a Resident Care Assistant in our Evergreen Neighborhood, Umu gets to know our residents, and forms relationships with them. These relationships are built on trust, and allow her to provide the best personal care to each resident. Umu makes sure she preserves each resident’s dignity by helping them to look their best each day, and ensures that each resident is engaged in the community’s activities. Essentially, Umu arrives at the community each day ready to join the residents for wherever the day takes them. She is there to keep them feeling safe, respected, and happy.
“I love coming to work every day!” says Umu. “Making the residents smile makes me happy. I enjoy working with my co-workers and being a part of a team.” Umu is excellent at her job, giving personalized attention to each resident, and doing her best to create meaningful moments of joy. She remembers a specific time when she had to work hard to give one resident such a moment.
“My favorite memory is of one of my residents named Lola. She was not having a good day, and I was determined to make her feel better! I knew if I paid special attention to her, I would see her smile. I took the time to do her hair and nails. When I was done, not only did she smile, she also gave me a big hug and kiss.” It is that kind of personalized attention that makes Umu a true star here at Arbor Terrace.
An Arbor Star
Umu’s hard work and love for our residents doesn’t go unnoticed. She was recognized as our community’s 2018 Arbor Star of the Year for her kindness, compassion, and caring spirit. Regardless of what situations arise during the day, Umu meets them with a smile.
Umu is well respected by her peers, our residents, and their family members as well. Renee, the daughter of an Arbor Terrace Willistown resident says, “Umu has such a kind heart, and is so patient with my mom.” Another employee, Mike, says, “I never see Umu stop moving! She is really good with the residents and nice to work with.”
We could not be happier to work alongside Umu every day. She inspires us to be kinder and take more time in connecting with the residents who call our community home.
