How do you know when it’s time for a move to an assisted living community?
Every senior is different and each situation is unique. However, there are a few signs that assisted living could be the best (and healthiest) next decision for you or your loved one.
Regularly feeling unstable or experiencing a recent fall, chronic pain or other conditions that are becoming harder to manage, feelings of loneliness or isolation—especially when you still want to be social: these are all characteristics of someone who would benefit from a move into an assisted living community. If you’re trying to determine if the time is right, give us a call; our team is here to help.
What is the difference between assisted living and memory care at Arbor Terrace Norwood?
Both memory care and assisted living offer supportive care to people with a range of health issues, including cognitive impairments. Memory care, however, caters specifically to those with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia through dementia-friendly activities and staff trained in the psychological and physical effects of cognitive impairments. Are assisted living apartments furnished at Arbor Terrace Norwood?
Aside from kitchenette appliances, the assisted living apartments at Arbor Terrace Norwood do not come furnished. Our senior living community is designed to be reminiscent of home, and we encourage residents to bring their own belongings, including a bed and smaller pieces of furniture. For more information on what to bring—and what not to bring—when moving in, read this article from The Arbor Company Blog!
Are assisted living expenses tax deductible?
In most cases, only the medical costs of an assisted living community are deductible. Living costs like room and board are not. However, there are exceptions if the resident is in the assisted living facility primarily for medical care, in which case, part or all of assisted living costs may qualify for the medical expense tax deduction. We recommend consulting a tax advisor with questions regarding your specific circumstances.
