We have some amazing residents living at Arbor Terrace Basking Ridge, including our very own Marathon Man, Jim Jeskey! We recently sat down with Jim and his family to learn more about all of his many athletic feats.
Jim is extremely proud of his running career. At 90 years old, he has completed almost 50 marathons, including New York, Boston, Philly, Marine Corps, and Atlantic City! He ran in his last marathon in Yonkers when he was 80 and completed 13 of the 26 total miles, bringing his marathon count up to 49 ½.
But Jim is not just a one-trick pony. He played basketball in the Senior Olympics, traveling around the country for over 20 years—most recently just three years ago!
Jim’s storied athletic career began long ago. A tremendous athlete, Jim played baseball, soccer, and basketball at Panzer College before the school merged with Montclair State. He transferred to Seton Hall University and pitched for the Pirates in 1955 and 1956. Later, Jim coached for Union High School in New Jersey from 1961-2008.
During this time, Jim served as a coach for the soccer, baseball, and golf teams, and was recently recognized among the coaches in New Jersey with the highest number of wins with 503 soccer victories. He even coached famed actor Ray Liotta. Jim recalls many fond memories of Mr. Liotta and said he was a great athlete.
In 2014, Jim was inducted into the Union County Baseball Hall of Fame. While he is certainly a local hero, we can’t help but applaud his many accomplishments here at Arbor Terrace. We are honored to have an athlete of his caliber in our midst, and we can’t wait to see what he does next!
