It doesn’t take long for visitors and residents alike to fall in love with Chicago over and over again. Between its Midwestern friendliness, shimmering Lake Michigan, and diverse neighborhoods, the Windy City is hard to beat. It’s no wonder that older adults want to stay near the town and suburbs they love when it’s time to retire. Fortunately, independent living near Chicago gives seniors a taste of the city with luxury amenities and access to wellness resources.
If you are ready to begin exploring independent living communities in the Chicagoland area, you may have some questions. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions about independent living near Chicago, giving you the opportunity to learn more before diving into the search for your new home.
What types of apartments are available?
Spacious apartments are just the beginning of the independent living experience for older adults across Chicagoland. Here at Summit of Uptown in suburban Park Ridge, we offer residents a choice between chic studio apartments and more spacious one-bedroom options ranging from 410-750 square feet.
Do apartments come furnished?
Apartments in independent living communities are not furnished so that you can express your personal style. Bring in your favorite coffee table or artwork or choose to purchase a few new items to enjoy in your new home. No matter what you decide to furnish your apartment with, one thing is certain: You’ll make it feel just like home.
Can I entertain guests?
Absolutely! Whether you have a few family members over to celebrate a birthday or invite your entire garden club over for a happy hour, your friends and family are more than welcome in your new home. If you are worried about not having enough room to host your large group here at Summit, you can work with staff ahead of time to book any of our large living rooms or other spaces.
Is the food good?
Independent living residents can always cook, bake, and prepare food in their apartments. However, it sure is nice to not have to worry about cooking three meals per day. At Summit of Uptown, our dining room is the place to be at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Residents have two meals per day (breakfast and their choice of either lunch or dinner) included in their monthly fee, and most take advantage of it.
The meals served in independent living communities are delicious and nutritious. At Summit, our chefs take pride in menu planning to include resident favorites as well as seasonal additions that everyone enjoys.
Can my friend stay for dinner?
You are more than welcome to invite a friend or two to join you for a meal in the Summit dining room. Simply purchase a guest meal ticket at the concierge desk. Consider inviting someone to accompany you to Sunday brunch before enjoying a nice visit on the patio.
Can I still go on vacation?
Independent living residents are active and busy; your new senior living community shouldn’t tie you down. At Summit, you can still head out on your vacation. We’ll take care of collecting your mail and continuing with your housekeeping services so that you can return to a sparkling home.
What is there to do in an independent living community?
One of the best parts of residing in an independent living community is the friendships and opportunities for socialization! There is always something to do and someone to enjoy it with at Summit. Our engagement team works hard to create an activity, club, and event calendar packed with everything from live concerts to trips to wine tastings.
