Suwanee, a small town of about 20,000, is located just 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, close enough for a day trip but far away enough to avoid the crime and congestion associated with big cities.

An Active Social Scene

There are plenty of resources in Suwanee to help seniors stay engaged with each other during their retirement.

  • Prime Timers Pointe — This community recreation center at George Pierce Park is designed for seniors 50 and older. It’s a great place to hang out, watch television or play billiards. The facility also has a catering kitchen and dining room for events.

  • The Good Timers Club — A monthly social club for seniors 55 and older.

  • Gwinnett Senior Golden Games — Area seniors ages 50 and over compete annually in this event, which features a wide range of games including darts, table tennis, billiards, bowling, bocce, golf, and horseshoes. It gives retirees the chance to stay active while making new friends.

  • Gwinnett SenioR Learning Center — Located in the George Pierce Park Community Center, this computer lab helps seniors learn more about using their computers, tablets, and phones.

    • Suwanee Creek Greenway — This 4-mile trail along Suwanee Creek through forest and wetlands connects parkland with residential and commercial areas. Mostly hard surface, it’s a great place to take a walk.
    • White Street Park — This park is home to Harvest Farm, Georgia’s largest organic community garden.

  • Lake Lanier — This 38,000-acre lake, the biggest in Georgia, is just 15 miles away. It’s a popular spot for spending a day at the beach, going fishing, or renting a boat and getting out on the water.

  • Festivals and Events — From food festivals, to parades, to free concerts, the city hosts a full calendar of gatherings throughout the year.

Culture and History

  • The Hudgens Center for Art & Learning — Located in nearby Duluth, this museum and learning center displays many different forms of art including paintings, drawings, prints, pottery, and sculpture. It includes work from local artists, as well as internationally known artists such as Ansel Adams and Andy Warhol.

  • Gwinnett Ballet Theatre — This local ballet company puts on several shows a year including its popular “Nutcracker” performances in December.

  • Historic Old Town Suwanee — Explore Suwanee the way it used to be. Historic homes, churches, and storefronts date back to the 1870s.
