Happy birthday to Mildred Brannon, a resident of Arbor Terrace South Forsyth. Brannon turned 97 on July 25. Her secrets to longevity? Staying active and keeping the faith.

“I’ve always gone to the Methodist church since I was a little child,” she said. “I enjoy it.”

Brannon, who raised three children, walks a lot and participates in just about every activity offered at the community, according to Engagement Director Becky Wagner. As evidence of her love of Bingo, Brannon’s bed is covered with stuffed animals – prizes won at games in the community. She loves gospel and classical music. Her other favorite activities include bird watching, board games and cards, movies, arts and crafts.

She especially enjoys the painting class, which was taught by artist Neena Alapatt, before the COVID-19 pandemic.  Brannon has a collection of beautiful acrylic paintings she created in Alapatt’s class and looks forward to the day when the class can safely resume.

Brannon says she also enjoys the food at Arbor Terrace South Forsyth, including fresh fruit, sandwiches, raisin bran cereal and butter pecan ice cream.

Before the pandemic, Brannon was a faithful participant in the community’s visitation program, visiting residents who are shut in or don’t often get visitors.

“She enjoys chatting with the other residents and bringing them a little cheer,” Wagner said.

To celebrate Brannon’s birthday, her family came for a patio visit, and the staff presented her with balloons, a card and of course, a cake!
