la Orana means “Hello!” in Tahitian culture and is used in conjunction with a lei for a traditional welcome. Arbor Terrace Peachtree City hosted a three-part Polynesian-themed event for August. First, we took residents on a simulated flight where they learned about aviation from our flight attendant expert. Then the residents “landed” in Oahu, Hawai’i for our very special Polynesian Luau Party.

Part One: Arbor Terrace Airlines

We took our first flight as a crew to Hawai’i in honor of our Theme Dinner this month - Polynesian Luau. One of our Engagement Team members, Mary Margaret, was an Atlantic Southeast Airline flight attendant for 12 years. She reminded us that Aviation Week was coming up and we were glad she shared her expertise in aviation with our residents. THEY LOVED IT!!! Looking forward to traveling with our crew and residents to our next destination soon!

Part Two: Trip to Hawai’i

We had a flight simulation to Oahu, Hawai’i in honor of our Theme Dinner, Polynesian Luau, the next day! We had a few residents say that they’d never been to Hawai’i and felt like they were there because of this activity. We are glad to offer enriching cultural programs like this to help transport our residents to places they’ve never been before!

Part Three: Polynesian Luau

Decorations & Dining were simple, tropical, DELICIOUS & FUN! Residents enjoyed the Shrimp Maui, Fried Rice, Upside Down Pineapple cupcakes, and more on banana leaves. On our head table, we had three islands represented: Samoa, Tahiti & Hawai’i. These would be the Polynesian dances that will be seen later for their show by the pool!

Our residents and staff had a great time taking pictures by our beach with coconut trees and being welcomed by beautiful Pacific Islander dancers donning leis as they entered the dining room for their Polynesian Luau Theme Dinner!

We started our entertainment upstairs for our Personal Care folks with local Polynesian dancers. Then for the opening act, we had our Chair Hula Class perform and ended with a Samoan Youth Group, who traveled three hours to participate, dancing the main show by the pool. Residents RAVED on experiencing authentic Polynesian entertainment & being transported to the islands for those 2 hours.

We are PROUD OF EVERYONE that performed for our Annual Luau here at Arbor Terrace Peachtree City!!! This is the first of many luaus to come at Arbor Terrace Peachtree City that will showcase the culture of the Polynesian people. A culture that brings our residents so much JOY!
