Continuing the KW legacy to “Give where we live,” this was one of approximately 10 community projects where teams of agents, vendors and community partners across Peachtree City, Fayetteville and Coweta, Ga., joined forces targeting nearly 400 local senior citizens.
At Arbor Terrace, KW teams unloaded 100 flats of more than 150 flowering plants, pots and soil for 160 resident apartments and to beautify the community garden. They also distributed handmade cards with the flowers. Second-grade students in Angie McClanahan's art classes at Braelinn Elementary even created banners to decorate the common areas in the community.
Amy Vender, one of the KW agents who organized the effort, is the daughter of two Arbor Terrace residents. Her parents, Louis and Beverly Salvmann, both 86 years old, have been married for 67 years and have lived together in the senior living community since August 2019.
“Because of COVID-19, we knew RED Day 2020 would be more challenging. We were working against time constraints and other restrictions with regard to serving our seniors in Peachtree City and surrounding communities,” Vender said. “Because this is a day we look forward to all year, we were determined to still give back to this precious group in a special way, so it was really cool to watch everyone – kids, teachers, agents and vendors – come together to make it happen.”
Arbor Terrace Peachtree City staff worked hand in hand with KW teams to ensure residents received the personal touch of a knock on their apartment doors. Residents were offered a choice of petunias, cora vincas or begonias with colored containers for their apartment, patio or balcony.
“Some residents were sitting in their doorway in anticipation, others wanted to write personal thank you notes, and a few just couldn’t believe someone had taken the time to do this for them,” said Mary Byrd, Arbor Company Engagement director. “It was just a beautiful gesture at a time when our seniors really needed a bright spot.”
