Peachtree City is full of activities for seniors, whether you’re taking in the sights and sounds of the Peachtree City Farmers Market or enjoying a walk around Lake Peachtree. It’s the perfect spot to curl up with a good book and relax near the water or under a tree.
The Peachtree City Library is a great access point for new relationships, meaningful events, and of course, plenty of exceptional books. Here are three great activities for seniors to enjoy at this welcoming, well-stocked library.
You don’t have to shell out a ton of cash or spend the afternoon scouring Google for a discount. The library maintains a stock of park and museum passes you can check out just like a book. Take the grandkids to the world-class Center for Puppetry Arts to watch a performance and then learn about the history of puppeteering.
Enjoy free access to the William Breman Jewish Heritage Museum. Or stop by Zoo Atlanta to see the pandas and gorillas for yourself. Though the list of passes the library maintains is always expanding, you can usually check out passes to:
If you're deeply committed to the success of the Peachtree City Library, consider joining Friends of the Peachtree City Library. Membership in this group costs $10. This group of volunteers works together to plan library events, maintain the library, and educate the community about literature. Some examples of common roles include:
The annual Friends of the Peachtree City Library book sale is the group’s flagship event. Work together with other book lovers to stock books, help people find the perfect read, and ensure that the sale is a successful fundraiser. Download an application here.
The Peachtree City Library offers both a morning and evening book club. The two clubs read different literary works, so if you want to join them both, you can. The range of book selections includes many genres, including pop fiction, historical fiction, literary classics, current events, and nonfiction.
The morning club meets every second Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Reader’s and Writer’s Room, while the evening club meets every second Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Reader’s and Writer’s Room. Selections by the evening club are typically more challenging. You don’t need to sign up. Just read the book and show up ready to discuss.
Peachtree City seniors should know that the library is part of the PINES library consortium, which means you’ll have reciprocal borrowing privileges at 300 participating libraries.
