Residents at The Solana East Cobb enjoy engaging activities and interaction with community volunteers on a regular basis. One such activity is their weekly class with Sketching with Seniors. Sketching with Seniors is a special organization because it was launched and is supported by a group of young, high school volunteers who want to share their passion for art and the elderly.
After watching her own grandfather struggle with mental health issues during the pandemic, 16-year old Akanksha Manna started Sketching with Seniors along with co-founder Claire Jiang. Both young ladies with hearts for service, under their leadership the organization has expanded to 15 locations and is governed by a board of directors entirely composed of high school students!
While these young people enjoy connecting with their community and serving others, residents at The Solana are greatly benefited by their work. “I feel light, I feel like I am doing something that I love,” said Roberta Griffin, a resident at The Solana East Cobb.
“It has been really meaningful for our residents, it brings them out in the morning. They get excited,” said staff member Shalam Soby.
The staff and residents at The Solana thank Akanksha and her friends at Sketching with Seniors for bringing art, fun and companionship into the community every week. To learn more about the organization, click here.
