SUVs slowly rolled up, one behind the other, recently to bring 50 meals and desserts carefully prepared and packed with love for staff at Solana East Cobb. The “angels” who delivered the nourishment were church staff and member volunteers from Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, the community’s neighbor and longtime partner.
Prior to the coronavirus quarantine, the church’s Pedal Pushers ministry had long supplied vases of fresh flowers to brighten common areas in the community, as well as led Sunday services with the residents.
“When the church was fully operational, we partnered in different ways with both Solana East Cobb and Arbor Terrace of East Cobb,” said Greta Rowe, Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, Hospitality manager. “Since we can’t safely gather and serve our congregation right now, we thought this would be the perfect way to thank and serve the staff who are taking care of our most vulnerable population every day.”
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, random acts of community unity and kindness like this have infused many Arbor Terrace communities throughout the nation thanks to neighboring businesses, public servants and residents’ families.
Solana East Cobb Sales Counselor Shelly Hill, a member of the church along with her parents and siblings, was among the first to be informed of the delicious donation.
“I love my church for many reasons, but when I saw the caravan of care and support brought to sustain our weary staff, their demonstration of love as a good neighbor rose to the top of my list,” Hill said. “The dessert cookies that simply read ‘HEROES’ were literally the icing that nearly brought us to tears.”
