Moote, Kimmie, and Otis helmed the MKO Kindness Campaign for 2024 at 94.9 the Bull to foster community connections and build kindness for residents across assisted living communities. At Arbor Terrace of Burnt Hickory, residents got to enjoy handmade Valentine’s Day cards from children, teachers, local businesses, and more, making this new venture a success for many Georgians during the sweet holiday.

Though Valentine’s Day is a day for love and companionship, it can often be lonely for many people. That’s why the MKO Kindness Campaign started: to bring joy to its recipients while being an educational tool for children. Kids all around the city learned about the true essence of kindness on this holiday through the collection of handmade cards for individuals at nearby memory care and independent living communities.

From January 14th to February 5th, the community gathered to create meaningful and lovely Valentine’s cards for a grand total of 6,136 handmade sentiments from almost 60 different groups, churches, coaches, individuals, and many others around Georgia. These contributions included participants sharing their own experiences as well as their creative talents to embody kindness. This left quite an overwhelming response for the MKO Kindness Campaign.

These cards were then collected, sorted, and packaged for residents at 50 different assisted living communities around the city, including Arbor Terrace of Burnt Hickory. Some students even delivered the cards themselves, bringing the “kindness campaign” full circle between generations and letting the kids see the joy their handmade Valentines brought to others.

One individual from Arbor Terrace at Burnt Hickory expressed their gratitude and said, “This is the only Valentine that I got this year, and it’ll fit perfectly on my fridge.” These heartwarming acts not only engaged the city’s children with acts of kindness but also provided beautiful artwork and connections for those in memory care communities, with a memento they could proudly display.

With such an amazing turnout, this campaign found success with many generations of Georgia residents this Valentine’s Day, and it taught the importance of building connections through something as simple but powerful as a handmade card. This is just one of many MKO Kindness Campaigns planned for the year, and next year’s Valentine’s Day goal is for 10,000 cards for over 100 facilities across the state.
