The food, the conversation, the atmosphere—it doesn’t happen all by itself. Directing the dining experience is one of our most important team members, Dining Director Kelvin Harris.
Ingredients for an Excellent Dining Room
Kelvin came to Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill little more than one year ago, and it was his first experience working with seniors. We watched in awe as he quickly exceeded our expectations, creating menus and experiences that our residents loved. We knew immediately that Kelvin was going to be a perfect fit.
Kelvin takes his role seriously, and it shows. Under his direction, he oversees all aspects of dining in our independent living community. His secret recipe for making our dining room one of the best in the area? Outstanding food, exceptional service, and creating a welcoming dining room that encourages residents to visit, chat, and let their guards down with one another.
“I love seeing our residents enjoying themselves while visiting the dining room,” says Kelvin. He goes above and beyond to make it happen, and sometimes creates the perfect backdrop for a major event. His favorite memory is “when [resident] Mr. Lee Polk proposed to [another resident] Phyllis during happy hour.”
Always Ready to Serve
The dining room is a happening place, but it is also a place where residents with many differing opinions congregate. Kelvin tries his best to take everyone’s opinions and thoughts into consideration when managing the space, and it can be difficult. But a resident once told him, “Just do the best you can,” and that’s what Kelvin does every day—his very best.
Residents notice his hard work, and they appreciate it. Wendall and Nancy D. say, “thank you for all you do for me, as well as the entire community.” Staff members notice Kelvin’s ability to create an inspiring work environment. Sous Chef Shaugi Ibrahim says Kelvin is “the best manager I have worked for.”
