A Day In The Life of An Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill Resident

We all make assumptions based on our past experiences, and the older we get, the more we think we know what something’s going to be like. Sometimes, however, if we open ourselves up to new experiences, we may find we are pleasantly surprised.

You may think you know what your days would be like if you lived in a senior living community, but each community is different. And at Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill in Dacula, the staff go out of their way to make sure every day is packed with fun.

Starting Your Day

Residents wake up knowing that breakfast is ready. In the dining hall, they’ll say good morning to friends while enjoying that first cup of coffee or tea. Then they’ll sit down to a bowl of oatmeal and berries, or maybe eggs and toast.

After breakfast, it’s time to get the blood pumping with some exercise. Maybe today you’ll go for a walk around the grounds. Or you might be in the mood for some chair yoga, or a “strength and stretch” class. If the weather is nice, the classes will probably be held outdoors.

Don’t forget to check the daily community newsletter for a reminder of the day’s events. Maybe you’ll want to spend your morning painting or drawing on the patio. Or enjoying some music and a singalong around the piano.

The daily newsletter also contains well-wishes for residents who are celebrating birthdays. Birthdays are a big deal at Arbor Terrace. When it’s your special day, expect balloons and a party hat, a chorus of “Happy Birthday,” and of course, some cake or cookies and ice cream.

In addition to birthdays, the staff at Arbor Terrace love to celebrate holidays. They go all out for big ones like Thanksgiving and Christmas. In February, red decorations and hearts are everywhere for Valentine’s Day. March means St. Patrick’s Day with green shamrocks, and of course, beer. But did you know that May 16t is National Mimosa Day? Arbor Terrace residents get to celebrate that one, too.

Midday Break

Residents gather in the dining room again for lunch and get to choose a hot meal or a sandwich. After lunch, you may want to find a quiet spot and read or go to your room for a nap. There are regularly scheduled games as well, including board games, card games, and bingo.

Art projects are also popular. Residents may color and create inspirational bookmarks or make greeting cards to share with each other or send to family members.

If you want something more active, there might be dancing, mini-golf, or even bowling scheduled on certain days. And if you are itching to go somewhere, regular bus trips give residents the chance to see the beautiful landscape surrounding Dacula.

On Tuesdays, residents take trips around the world as part of the community’s Armchair Travel Adventures. They watch videos and learn about different countries, maybe even playing games and sampling food from those cultures.

Late afternoons mean happy hour. On Wednesday, residents can join in the weekly Wind Down event and enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers. Sometimes, staff members bring the fun from room to room with a cart stocked with beers, or maybe even ice cream.

Wrapping Up Your Day

After a delicious and nutritious three-course dinner in the dining room, you may want to watch a favorite movie with your fellow residents. Or you may want to go back to your room for a quiet night so that you can rest up for the next day of fun.

There’s so much to do Arbor Terrace Hamilton Mill that your favorite activities are sure to be on the schedule. And if they’re not, just ask, and staffers will find a way to make it happen, because at Arbor Terrace, the residents come first. To find out more, give us a call at 770-999-0421.
