1. Silver Roamers Club
The Cherokee County Recreation and Parks Agency’s Silver Roamers Club is the perfect antidote to a boring retirement. This one-of-a-kind socialization group meets monthly to plan events. Members enjoy a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities, from cemetery tours and adult coloring to Braves games and concerts.
2. Cherokee County Master Gardeners
If gardening is your jam, join the Cherokee Master Gardeners. This offshoot of the University of Georgia Extension Service offers a wide range of benefits, including monthly gardening classes, plant swaps, and a font of gardening knowledge. Their annual garden sale is the best place in Canton to get native plants.
3. Chattahoochee Nature Center
The Chattahoochee Nature Center has something for everyone—an annual native plant sale, plenty of walkable trails, wildlife, educational seminars, and interactive exhibits. Take the grandkids for one of the Center’s kids’ days, or go on one of the Center’s evening river canoe trips. Gardening aficionados will relish CNC’s regular Dine and Discover meetings, during which you can enjoy a scrumptious meal while mastering a new gardening skill.
4. Cherokee County Senior Olympics
Think your days of competitive sports are in the past? Think again. Whether you’re a veteran athlete hoping to get back in the game or an amateur mastering an athletic skill for the first time, the Cherokee County Senior Olympics are for you. There are 15 different events and monthly meetings to plan for the big day.
5. River Tubing
The Chattahoochee, Georgia’s most venerated river, runs through much of the state. Canton’s tradition of “tubing the ‘Hooch” is a perennial summer favorite. Rent an inner tube, then relax as you gently float down the river. There are plenty of companies that can help you enjoy the river, each offering their own unique take on tubing. Check out Nantahala Outdoor Center for a half-day excursion, or Shoot the Hooch for a slightly more adventurous approach.
6. Golf

7. Canton Parks
Canton offers a wealth of public parks for fishing, picnicking, walking the dog, special events, and more. Some of the best parks include:
- Etowah River Park, which offers kayaking, extensive walking paths, and plenty of shaded picnic areas.
- The Blankets Creek Trail System, a system of trails of varying difficulty levels.
- Hickory Log Creek Reservoir, a quiet reservoir perfect for kayaking and fishing.
- Cherokee Veterans Park, which offers a well-maintained, easy walking trail. The park also hosts several annual events and festivals.
8. Farms and Dairies
If you love farm life and animals but aren’t yet ready to start your own farm, you can visit someone else’s. Tanglewood Farm Miniatures features miniature goats to delight your grandkids, as well as seasonal events, such as hay rides in the fall. Local farmers often feature products at the Canton Farmers Market.
