The University of Georgia is the proud home of Georgia’s State Botanical Garden. The Garden is actually several smaller gardens, each of which changes seasonally. Visitors can enjoy a wide range of educational special events, volunteer, or even join Friends of the Garden. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia boasts sprawling natural beauty all year long. But this stunning collection of living art is more than just a work of beauty. It’s an ongoing horticultural project, with experts from around the world coming to Georgia to learn about native species, preserve endangered plants, and understand the botany of some of the world’s most delicate species. When you visit, learn more about the plant life that surrounds you in these unique gardens.

  • The Alice H. Richards Children’s Garden introduces children to native species in Georgia, conservation, and the importance of plants in human life. Check out story time and other ongoing events. 

  • The Flower Garden is a must-visit for lovers of blooms of all sizes and shapes. Featuring a colorful annual garden as well as voluminous perennials, this is the best place in Georgia to see daffodils in spring. 

  • The Heritage Garden offers a living tour of Georgia’s plant history. Check out heirloom plants, antique roses, and a vision of what gardens of a bygone era looked like. 

  • The Horticulture Greenhouses are areas for propagating unique and endangered species, including tropical plants. 

  • The Hummingbird Trail attracts hummingbirds with a wide range of plants, and includes 21 markers denoting where these tiny creatures like to congregate in the garden. 

  • The Shade and Native Flora Gardens are each named after a district of the Garden Club of Georgia. Check out Georgia favorites like dogwoods and magnolias and witness firsthand that you don’t need a huge sunny spot to grow stunning plants.

If you love the State Botanical Garden, consider joining Friends of the Garden, which supports the Garden with your donations while giving you access to classes, special events, and more.
