So my mom has Alzheimer's Disease. She is here because she was at an assisted living community prior to here and her Alzheimers was getting worse and she was less able to take care of herself and so she needed a memory care community. We found Arbor Terrace of Glenview. We looked at a couple of others and we thought that the programing here was appropriate for my mom. The location for my family was just about right.
When I walked in, and I will say I was prepared for the worst, I had a vision of a lot of very ill people unable to communicate with one another and unable to enjoy life and I expected a very sad environment because that was my picture of a place for memory care folks. It was bright and it was cheery and I didn’t expect to find something like that. They are terrific, warm, caring people. That is what stands out, the warmth and the heart of the caregivers here.
My mom is happy and that wouldn’t necessarily be easy because she is ill. But she has always had a good disposition and so she is always going to be on the better side of even whatever her condition is.
She doesn’t remember much of what we do when we come to see her but she is always happy and smiling and has never has complained about the treatment or inattention. We are a warm and connected family, we would know in a heartbeat if there was any trouble. We have never had any issues in the 2-3 years that my mom has been here. It was the right choice and we would have hesitated if it were not the right choice.
